Monday, June 13th .... This morning started out with a bang! As I was leaving the hotel, my chain came off. In itself, not a big deal. I pushed the bike over out of traffic and within five minutes I was back riding. My group was at least one mile ahead and out of sight. It was a very foggy morning so visibility was limited. I just followed my Garmin course but after four turns I realized something was wrong with my Garmin as after each turn it would show "recomputing" which is not normal. So I stopped to sort our this new problem. After fixing the issue I realized the computer had sent me in a big rectangle and I was one mile off course and 20 minutes behind. By the time I got back on course all the riders were ahead of me and I was dead last. So I spent the entire day riding by myself.
The ride was beautiful. The landscape of this part of Ohio is without comparison. The rolling hills and picturesque farms was something to see. With all the recent rain everything is lush and green. The hills while beautiful to see must be climbed over when on a bicycle. Over 4000 feet of climbing on a 98 miles ride. Many of the hills, while ot long, less than a mile in climbing length, had grades as high as 15% Most were more modest in the7-10% range. My legs were like rubber at the end of the ride. We were told that Tuesday would be easier. More about that when you read about Tuesday's ride! by the end of the ride my legs were so sore I was not sure I would be able to ride Tuesday. But a good nights sleep might help that situation. Tune in for Tuesdays ride report.
