Saturday, June 11th .... Photos are of the typical little towns we are passing through. They all have flags out as well as the homes going into and out of town. The ride out of Indianapolis was much different than the ride into the city. Leaving this morning we were on bike paths, bike land and some bike trails. It was good roads and a safe route out of town where we picked up US 40. Some of the better roads we have seen in a long time. When we left, we had a little rain. It was unexpected as the forecast was not predicting rain. We rode 74 miles and tomorrow we are riding 105 miles. We are likely to get rain tomorrow as the forecast is about 50% chance most of the day. We are in a crunch zone as we are doing the 105-mile ride followed by three 90+ mile rides before our final rest in Erie. It is hard to believe we are coming to the end so soon!
Thursday, June 16th .... Today was a day off for some much-needed rest! My friend and riding buddy from Jacksonville, Stan Sanford, met me here in Erie, PA This is where he grew up and started in the bicycle business while in school. He worked here for fifteen years before moving to Jacksonville and started Champion Cycling. He sold the business to some great guys who have carried on and continue to build a very successful business that has served the cycling community well. I met several people he worked with here in Erie. They spoke as highly of him as we all have come to think of him in Jacksonville. He also took me to many of the interesting sights in Erie. Paul, one of Stan's sailing buddies, took us to lunch at the Yacht Club. We are meeting another friend for dinner at a well known Italian restaurant. This has been a great day. Stan will ride with me for the first 50 miles of our ride tomorrow from Erie to Buffalo. ...
