Tuesday, May 10th .... Another long day riding in the support van!  When we arrived at the hotel my part was there, and the bicycle has been repaired and ready for tomorrow!  Two lost days of cycling!

 Thursday, June 16th .... Today was a day off for some much-needed rest!  My friend and riding buddy from Jacksonville, Stan Sanford, met me here in Erie, PA  This is where he grew up and started in the bicycle business while in school.  He worked here for fifteen years before moving to Jacksonville and started Champion Cycling.  He sold the business to some great guys who have carried on and continue to build a very successful business that has served the cycling community well. I met several people he worked with here in Erie.  They spoke as highly of him as we all have come to think of him in Jacksonville.  He also took me to many of the interesting sights in Erie.  Paul, one of Stan's sailing buddies, took us to lunch at the Yacht Club.  We are meeting another friend for dinner at a well known Italian restaurant.  This has been a great day. Stan will ride with me for the first 50 miles of our ride tomorrow from Erie to Buffalo. ...

 Saturday, June 18th .... Today was a surprise.  Four days ago, we were getting heat warnings and the temp was 94 with high humidity.  This morning when we left Buffalo it was 55 and the wind was out of the NW at 15 mph and the sky was overcast. The ride was good.  It was not too difficult even though we had 3400 ft of climbing.  Most of the hills were short, less than a mile in length but some had spots where the grade hit 10%.  Overall, most hills were in the 3-5% range.  We will see more hills with increasing length over the balance of the ride The big milestone was we crossed the 3000-mile point and have less than 400 miles to go.  It has been a trip I will never forget and has lived up to my expectations.

 Thursday, June 9th .... Another state has come and gone!  We left Illinois and are spending our first night in Indiana. Tomorrow we will ride into Downtown Indianapolis. Today's ride was great weather and beautiful scenery.  We passed through a number of small towns which are in the heart of the agricultural center of the state.  We passed numerous old homes that were part of larger farms.  Almost all of them are proudly displaying the American flag.  Our day started with the unveiling of our decorated helmets.  It is obvious that some of the riders are more artistically inclined than others.  The voting took place at dinner. We rode 80 miles, and it was an interesting day.  Wind for the most part was with us, and the temps were in the comfortable range with no rain.  There were only a few rolling hills.  A fun day!
